NON-Registered 256MB Dimms on a Tyan Tiger 100 (1832): Does it work? Can you mix?

I've been liking the looks of the cheap memory that's been out and about lately, and I wanted to get myself a piece of that, but I've noticed in the motherboard manual, it says that 256MB Dimms have to be registered, and they can't be mixed with smaller Dimms (so I'd have to ditch the 128+32mb dimms I have in there...annoying). Anybody played with mixing RAM, or have you gotten non-registered/buffered 256 meg chips to work?
