Are they just doing it for the LULZ? Maybe collecting e-mail address for spammers. If the item is sold, at least have the decency to respond stating as such or delete the advertisement.

The last couple times I've posted something on craigslist, I got literally hundreds of email responses. If I hurt your widdle feewings by not responding, tough shit. I learned the hard way that people who are truely interested will send more than one message. Every person I initially sent replies to for their inquiries never respond anyway, so why should I take the time to reply to every single one? A solid 90% of those that send initial "I'm interested" emails aren't really interested and don't bother responding if I do reply, so I only send responses to those who inquire more than once.

Craigslist is full of flakes (both buyers and sellers).

It's free. That's not an excuse, but I think that has a lot to do with why you can't expect that people will bother with courtesy.

"Do you still have it?"

I never respond to that. Unfortunately those are the only emails I get.

I particularly hate the e-mails from doofuses that ask me everything about the item that I included in the posting!

And not just all the questions in one e-mail! Noooo, they must send multiple e-mails, each & every one asking a single question, and everything they ask is clearly listed in the posting.

My coworker had some script or something that would alert him if something he was looking for was posted on Craigslist. I imagine some people may even have gone further and have their script email the person too. So there is a chance that within a second after it was posted, it was gone.

As for the scammers, you can usually get a good idea who they are by their email address. If they post the is it still available crap that Arkcom mentioned and they're on gmail, yahoo, hotmail, or a free webmail service like that, odds are it's a scammer. If it's from a isp like comcast, verizon, or rr chances are more likely it's not a scammer.

I have no idea.. but I do love getting 'is this still available?' 'are you still having money problems?' and 'i have that new job you are looking for' all the time after I list something for sale.

I tried selling a vid card for $140. Got an email "will you take $90, I have cash, can pay tomorrow - Xiolou Zxhsia (or something)

I wrote back "How about $75 and you pay me next week?"

He wrote back "great, what your address?"

Isn't being able to make lowball offers/haggle the real draw of Craigslist? When I'm searching for something there are usually 3 steps:

1. determine an acceptable price
2. watch for any offers that are < price +10%
3. haggle, if you fail go back to step 2 and be patient.

I was willing to pay $50 for a deep freeze and by waiting three weeks, I ended up getting one for $25 instead. Sure, the guy got ripped off, but he listed it at that price, I didn't even have to haggle.

I get a lot of emails with really low offers. I usually just respond with "LOL".

I was just selling a $250 monitor that I bought a year ago. I was selling it for $100. I got a lot of $40-60 offers. "LOL"
