Non-parity vs ECC RAM..

I'm currently putting a new system together and the RAM I have seems to be causing problems.. the board won't POST and gives that wailing siren RAM isn't seated right beep... But the ram is seated right, and the ram does work.. hmm.. the manual for the mobo says that it supports ECC ram but nothing about not supporting non-parity stuff.. Basically my question is.. will a board that supports ECC also support non-parity ?
