Non-pansy drinks that aren't beer.

I can't stand the taste of beer, but it's pretty much required socially. What other drinks can a guy order at a bar without looking like a pansy. I can do shots of just about everything, but that just doesn't work in all situations. Is there any hope for salvation, or am I just going to have to learn to drink beer without making my "I'm drinking piss" face?

what kind of beers are you ordering? remember any names? if you are ordering crap like corona, well then its understandable why you would make a face like that when drinking beers.

edit: you could always go with the good old rum & coke

Just try different brands you are bound to find one you like. I cannot stand the tast of lite or dry beer, I drink mostly Heineken, Amstel, Brock or Carlsberg.

Bud, miller, the beast, natty and natty light...all involved very large amounts going down at once or very little before I threw them away.

No wonder you don't like beer drinking that kind of swill I would hate it too. For beers try:

Newcastle, Guinness, Anchor Steam, Bass, Sierra Nevada, Otter Creek, Corsendonk, Chimay, EKU 28, Young's Double Chocolate Stout or Oatmeal Stout, Fat Tire, Warsteiner, Samuel Smith, Rogue Ales, and many more.

As for non beer drinks where you don't look like a wuss:

Single Malt Scotch neat (yes a shot, but you sip it not shoot it), Maker's mark whisky neat (again don't shoot it), manhattan dry (Sinatra drank it), martini, long island tea, and texas tea.

tom collins could be construed as a girly drink.

it does taste good though.

Ha....you complain about absolut? My vodka of choice is Banker's Club or Boomerang, Smirnoff is too rich for my blood....

oh, btw, you left off the best of the 'good' vodkas though. Stoli baby.

If you're gonna drink scotch start off with easy stuff. Glen Livet, Glen Fiddich, Aberlour, Macallan, Glen Morangie are all very easy to drink and appreciate.

try cider. as long as you are in the sort of place that actually serves it (pub, not a redneck bar), it's not a pansy drink. + points if you are irish or can fake a brogue.
