non-overclocked AMD 64 running hot -FIXED

I'm building a new system:

Athlon 64 3200
Lian Li Silver Model "PC-6070A" (the quiet one)
Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 TC
K8N Neo Platinum MSI MS-7030

Powered up and sitting with the BIOS up, the CPU core temp got up to about 67 celcius. This is a brand new system, no overclocking, no tweaking. I haven't even installed the OS yet, because this seems too hot for a system doing practically nothing.

What can I do to resolve this? My selection of case and CPU cooler are both aimed at keeping things as quiet as possible, so I'd like to try to get this configuration working better, or find a different setup that will be quiet. TIA

Its either the Mobo Reading or the installation of the heat sink.

A: If you installed the heatsink properly... then it most likely the mobo reading...

It's your Motherboard. I have the same one. The readings in the BIOS are always wack. MSI just needs to release a bios update that fixes it. If you reboot occasionally the temps will be 20c lower. My m/b reads 57c idle usually, but the h/s is ALWAYS cool to the touch.

Don't worry about it.

Thanks. It was the motherboard.
I checked out MSI's support forum and found that the new beta BIOS 1.43 fixes the temperature reporting problem. After flashing to the new BIOS, my system idles in the 40s.

Cool, thanks for the tip 🙂 I'll snag that new bios when I get home.

Question, where is the new bios located? MSI recently released a new bios for that board. Is that what you're referring to, or is there a new-new one?

On MSI's official support page, you can get the current release version BIOS 1.3, which does not completely resolve the problem. There is a beta, version 1.43, that is unofficially available. I had some reservations about installing a beta/non-release BIOS, but it solved my problem and the system is now running stable.
