Non OCed P4 2.4B Temperature question

I have a p4 2.4B with standard retail fan/hs running, not overclocked, and the various MSI utils are telling me that the CPU is running at between 44-46C under normal conditions and around 47-53C after I've been playing games or whatever. Also, it tells me that the system temp is between 25-27C. The inside of the case (Antec 2600amb, with both front and rear fans [in at the front, out at the back])has good airflow and feels perfectly cool, but why should I be getting such high CPU temps? Could the sensor just be messed up? My motherboard is an MSI 645E Max.

that is quite normal with the stock heatsink
dont worry :)

if you wish to get as close as possible to actual die temperatures, get a digidoc 5 or something similar and attach the thermal probe to the ihs (metal part) of the p4 (if you decide you want to get crazy, drill another hole in the ihs and insert the thermal probe inwards more, of course making sure you attach the thermal probe somehow so it doesnt slip around, maybe frag tape would work)

I agree with EK. I have had several P4's and they all run ~44C with the retail HSF.

Not only is that normal for retail HSF then you throw in MSI and its history of reading some of the higher temps for a comparable P4 system....

I would say that high of 53c is no where near the high for that...Try running prime95 for about an hour and I bet you hit close to 60c easy....

Maybe you need a case with better ventilation. I have a P4 2.4 on an Asus P4PE in a Fong Kai 320. My idle temp is between 38 and 40. The max I've ever seen it is 44.

Hey-
Is the heatsink and fan that comes with a 2.4B the same as the one that comes on a 1.6a?
Can one of you guys send me a pic of what your heatsink/fan unit looks like?

Im just curious about something....

Fans in the whole P4 Intel story (even the Willamette Celerons - 1.7 and 1.8) are the same. And your temps are great...
