Non native resolution looks better?

So I picked up a 23" LCD TV 1080p.

I hooked it up to my computer and with 1920 x 1080, the picture looks really bad. Reading text is bad.

After switching it to 1680 x 1050, the picture cleared up really nicely. It looks like its the native res, but it's not.

Any help?

Running ati 8.9 drivers (I doubt running more updated drivers would help)

I have my video card hdmi cable hooked directly to the tv hdmi input.

If my card outputs 1920 x 1080 resolution, the hdtv shouldn't rescan, no?

So basically, how do I make my LCD HDTV looks like a regular computer monitor?

TV still rescans, yes it sucks.
There might be way to set up TV to do centered timings. You can play with ATi drivers.
Every TV is different story.

Just for kicks, I tried using a DVI cable to hook the computer to the LCD TV...

and 1920 x 1080 is displayed in all the clearness and glory to behold.

But with the HDMI cable, the picture is horrible.

I definitely want to use the HDMI cable because of the reason of displaying sound through the cable and the hdmi also came free with my tv.
