I have a good friend I work with who is Columbian. He's a cool guy for the most part, he immigrated here (Canada) from Columbia about a year and a 1/2 ago and has been living and working here since. Speaks perfect English almost, with just some accent. I've been having fun talking with him about Latino culture and the similarities and differences he's experienced here. We both work in 7-11 at the moment and come into contact with many other peoples and cultures daily. The other day he mentioned that he disliked Mexicans, after we talked with a couple of rougher Mexicans with an attitude. He said that a LOT of non Mexican Latinos hate Mexicans, that is South American Latinos. Now I know this is prejudice but there is indeed a strain of Mexican Latinos that you see who carry around the "tough guy with an attitude problem" image that you tend not to see as much in other non Mexican Latino cultures. Now labelling all Mexicans this way is the same as labelling all Americans dumb hicks just because there are some Americans from the south who happen to fit the dumb loudmouth stereotype. It's all just prejudice. Thing is I didn't know this stereotype existed in Latin America. Ever come across it yourself?
