Non high-end laptop with 1080p and ssd?

Hello,

I'm in the UK and looking for a reasonably cheap laptop with a 1080p screen and an ssd.
The problem I have is that these things are usually found in high-end PCs, and thus can't find one without an i7 or something like that. (And with the price going through the roof)
I'm mostly going to use this for coding, plus general purpose computing.

I have only been able to find something like that at pcspecialist. 1080p 15"6 screen, 8gb ram, 128gb ssd, i3, no OS (I don't need one, so if it can be 80£ cheaper...) and ac WiFi for 500£.
That's great but from what I've read battery life is crap compared to what it could be, and build time is quite long without paying too much to have it quicker. Plus it's a clevo base, so kinda bad. I don't know if something like 14"8 exists or similar, but I wouldn't mind a slightly smaller screen.

I don't need battery life that much, but if it exists something similar to this config that's done a bit better, I'd be interested.
As I said, the only thing I'm really interested in is a good quality screen and smallish ssd, the rest can change. Decent keyboard would be a plus.
Price range would be 400-600£ or 500-700€. (I'm from France so i can buy something from euro zone as long as I can choose a French or English keyboard)

Thanks for any suggestion you might have.

Cheers. 🙂

That's been a neglected part of the market for a while now. I'm also interested in a decent quality laptop with a good screen but since I don't do anything cpu-intensive, an i3 with 4 GB of ram is adequate. Unfortunately, the OEM's only put 1080p screens and ssd's in high end laptops.

Unfortunately, cheap laptops don't include SSD's from mainstream manufacturers. As you have already noticed, certain small OEM's do have this feature. Your best bet is to buy a laptop with specs you like (Make sure it has SATA 3!) and install your own SSD.

SSD you just install your own.. its easy and cost effective. Finding 1080p on a budget is a little harder.

Funny enough when I was laptop shopping 6 months ago, I didnt find many online loadouts that did 1080p until I got close to $1000. However going to best buy showed alot of their in store models starting at $450 were supporting 1080p. A lot of these loadouts are not even listen online by the manufacturer as orderable. It seems best buy wanted floor models looking their best and demanded 1080p screens where ever they could. I would look in what ever major electronic stores you guys have in UK.

Tell me about it.

Can anyone recommend a 1080p laptop around $1k? There are sooo many models spread across the manufacturers which makes it really hard to find the right one. I'm trying to replace my 2009 MBP and don't care whether I get another Apple or not. I do graphic design and motion design so it needs to be fairly strong. I have an extra SSD that I can use in it.
