1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Non-Gaming. Mostly Matlab, Photoshop, Illustrator,
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$1,000
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
US
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
None
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Many
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Plan on Overclocking
8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
NA
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Next couple of weeks
10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.
Have at it
Brother is wanting a build for mostly Matlab, and then some PS and Illustrator. Not sure if Matlab benefits from HT?
Build so far:
2600k
ASUS P8P67-M (REV 3.0)
G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
SILVERSTONE Fortress Series FT03B
SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W
XFX HD-567X-YNF3 Radeon HD 5670
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB
LITE-ON Black 24X
CoolerMaster 212+
PSU is overkill, but he wanted something quiet. The Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W would probably do though.
Going to have him wait for the Vertex 3's and then either add one of those, or a Corsair Force if the prices go down.
He was also interested in a mATX, but I don't know much about cases and how they would fit with an aftermarket cooler. An option might be the Noctua NH-C14
Case he was interested in:
Silverstone ft03
Any other recommendations for a mATX case that will fit a nice aftermarket cooler?
Thanks.
**update**
Changed out motherboard, case, and PSU. Total price after rebate: $975.47
