I'm looking for a second battery for my sd300, wondered if anybody had experience with the "knock-off" batteries readily available on e.g. ebay in terms of life, compatibility, whether they really are how many mAH they say? I don't want to spend $60 on another name-brand canon battery, is all.

i too am looking for one, since it doesn't rally last a long time as my old cameras battery did

although, i'd rather get a canon battery ...

ive bought two of those on ebay, one for an s230 and one for a g6, and they both last just about as long as canon batteries at like half the price.

hmm, then i guess i'll look into third-party batteries also ...

i got a replacement battery off of ebay for my canon s410. I made sure that the voltage matched up exactly and got one with a higher mah rating. It runs noticiably longer thatn the stock batter and i have had no trouble with my camera. I think it ran me about $20 or $30 canadian all said and told. Would not hesitate to do it again!

i have mixed feelings about knock-off batts

my good experience: i purchased a knock off battery with my now ancient canon s200. to this day (i'd say 2-3 years already), it still holds a great charge.

my bad experience: i purchased a knock off battery for my sister's canon sd20. the battery charged in less than 20 minutes.. that was iffy.. then in the camera, it only lasted about... 20 minutes.. the ebay seller i purchased it from offered a replacement, but i had already thrown away all these documents so i was screwed.. fault on my part as far as that goes though.

I use DigiPower brand replacement batteries in both my PowerShot S45 and Digital Rebel XT (both cameras take the same battery), and they work great! Suprisingly, they seem to last slightly longer than the OEM Canon batteries.

Try www.sterlingtek.com (think thats it) they have Canon batteries. I oirdered two of them for my Canon G5 and they are outlasting my Canon one that came with the camera.
