Nominee for Air Force Secretary

Bush put out the name for the nominee as Air Force Secretary. Michael Wynne formerly the Defense Department's undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics. Had a role in the Boeing tanker leasing mess.

In June, the Pentagon's inspector general said Wynne was one of a half-dozen top Pentagon and Air Force officials responsible for a failed $23.5 billion deal to lease and buy refueling tankers from The Boeing Co. (BA) Lawmakers called the deal the most significant defense contract abuse in decades, although the inspector general did not accuse the officials of illegal activity.

What is it with the Administration. Why would they touch these tainted goods with a 10 ft pole? There are loads of competent, clean, good candidates out there.

Hehe, kinda odd eh? It seems having a major scandal on your resume is a good thing for this Admin.

Wow, yet another USAF leader from a non-combat oriented background, and financial oriented yet again.

Its a wonder the USAF is held in such low regards by the other armed services.

I agree this is a strange choice, but I'd submit the lion's share of the reason the other services don't love the AF (to the extent they don't) is jealousy. It certainly isn't fair to blame the AF for President Bush's stupid pick for a SecAF nominee.

The Bush administration sees him as being a "team player". He should fit right in. 😀😀
