Can I nominate CNN's Quick Polls? They have some of the dumbest damn questions I've ever seen.

That has to be the most retarded comment ever. Do you have any idea what you're talking about, or are you 10? Stem cell research is one of the most promising fields of research in the modern era.

That is, if you ignore completely the ethical consequences. Heathen.

Uh... ok. Explain.

Edit: Nevermind, you're just trolling.

I am not trolling. I honestly believe that stem cell research will ultimately hit a dead-end (if it has not already) in today's society, and for that reason is the stupidest research ever. Yes, it does have heavy implications, but, quite frankly, it is wrong. And clearly President Bush agrees.

President Bush is not a scientist. President Bush would have a hard time getting a C in a high school biology class. The fact that you'd even bring that up is evidence that one of the following is true:
1. You're trolling
2. You don't have any idea what you're talking about
3. You're basing your opinion of science on your political persuasion.

I'm not by any means an expert on stem cell research, but it is believed (by far more knowledgeable and intelligent people than you or I) that it could lead to medical breakthroughs. That may happen, that may not happen. But yeah, you're right, it's clearly stupider that studying whether cows have regional accents. You're trying to turn this thread into a debate about something that is entirely unrelated to the thread. That is trolling. Please start a thread about stem cell research and post your opinion. I'm really interested in seeing what people have to say about it. Keep the politics out of it though so it won't get locked - just stick to the science.

I am not trying to lead discussion astray; the thread is about stupid research, and in my opinion stem cell research is, in fact, more stupid than cow accents, for the reason that exorbitant sums of money are being thrown at what I believe to be a dead end. I am not calling into question the scientific integrity of the research, or the intelligence of those researching it; I am however stating that the research of the topic is absurd. Believe me, I have read up on anything I could find before I formed my opinion, which is not based on political persuasion, but on my own moral values (which nonetheless are irrelevant to the thread).

However, before a Bush flame-fest ignites (all the cool kids are doing it), let me just say that although he may not be a scientist, he does have an advisory board that knows more about the topic than he does. Bush is also not a woman, but does that forbid him the right to make judgement on abortion? Bush is not a criminal, but does that forbid him the right to establish criminal rights? I agree that he may not be the brightest bulb in politics (if that is saying much), but remember that he does have advisors and he most certainly does not have an IQ of 80.

So, yes, I do believe stem cell research is the stupidest research being performed, not in theory, but because it is morally wrong and because so much money and attention is being devoted to it.
