After receiving my Nomad II through the emusic deal (thanks to people like those that visit this forum) I ran into a few problems I'd like to help others to avoid.
First, if you find the manager crashing everytime you plug in the nomadII, it (probably) means you need to update your firmware - as well as your software - from that recvd with the unit. It seems that ripping a CD to your drive will occaisionally give you files with "long file names" which the unit couldn't recognize until the new firmware came out on 7/19. (This took me multiple phone calls, emails and reinstallations to figure out.)
Here's the thread for win98 users:

Other users can also get drivers at nomadworld.com
(I didn't have these continous crashes until I ripped a song with a long title and tried to load it to the nomadII and it crashed; then everytime I tried to just use open the manager it would crash. You can test if this is the cause of your own crash by simply moving the music, dleting it, or renaming it and then opening the manager.)
Another advantage of the new software is that you can use media player to rip at 64k with similar quality to 128k mp3.
Hope this saves someone else out there some time - and don't forget to do the other software updates available too.
