MS is just renting the Nokia name, they didn't buy it. I hope the Finns will find a way to bounce back.

I read the article.

Makes perfect sense. They're just renaming the business unit it seems.

Seems like 'Nokia' has more brand recognition than 'Microsoft Mobile Oy'. Far less disgust associated with it too.

I'm going to assume that they won't use "Oy" as a brand name. They're not that dumb, right? RIGHT????

Last I read was MS had license to use Nokia's name for like ten years for device production but once that window closes it'll still be used by the existing Nokia software company.

I do hope a lot of the comments in here are sarcastic, and everyone is aware that Oy. is the Finnish equivalent of Ltd. or LLC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osakeyhtiö

So basically they will rename it Microsoft Mobile, seems reasonable. MS can't continue calling the company Nokia, as that will be retained by the remainder of Nokia (the NSN network infrastructure, HERE maps and services, patent licensing, etc.) though MS has a license to sell phones under the Nokia brand for a limited time.

They only have the Nokia brand name for Asha devices. They aren't allowed to use the name Nokia on Lumia phones though they do gain the Lumia brand.
