I was thinking of upgrading my cell phone (Nokia 3390) to something thinner/lighter/with longer battery life that's JUST a phone. Instead all the new phones have 84 billion useless features that result in the same battery life in the more or less the same size package. I have a PDA for all the other stuff can't someone please build a good cell phone that doesn't try to do everything but wash my clothes?

Erm, have you ever heard of the Nokia 6310i?

I agree with the above sentiments of "minimalism". I'm using this phone and IMO, pound for pound, this is the best "phone" phone which is targeted for business users(just like the IBM Thinkpads 🙂). This simply means that it's a no-nonsense device where "basic functionality" is put ahead of "bling bling features". It has the following attributes,

1) Unearthly battery life(mine lasts a minimum of 10 days with light to moderate use).
2) Remarkably fast and efficient menu system(no lags whatsoever).
3) Ergonomic phone factor(perfect size/length when held in your hand and the mouthpiece is much close to your mouth).
4) Amazing reception quality(one of the best in the business).
5) Standard LCD display(No "fancy" colored screens that murders battery life).
6) Tactile albeit somewhat noisy("click-ity") keypad(which is my preference because it's just like the famed IBM Model M keyboard).
7) Excellent lighting(bluish white backlight on the screen and keypads allows for easy reading even inside a dark room).
8) Bluetooth... 'Nuff said.

Then afterwards, get a Canon s400 and be a happy camper. 🙂

that's what i've had for the past year 🙂 it's actually exactly the same hight and width of the legendary 6100, just slimmer. i have no idea why it was discontinued so quickly, unless it just wasn't a good seller. if i could take my phone with me to verizon, i probably would.
