While I am sad to see Symbian go, and annoyed they didnt pick WebOS or Android, I am super happy to see Nokia moving onward.
They make the best phones but Symbian has not been a competitive OS for a year or more. It was great back in its day, offering numerous features as standard that other hi-end phones didnt always have.
Compared to modern stuff, its weak. Even the super duper N97 was held back by it. The fact they went with a different OS for N900 means Nokia were tired of Symbian as well.

Symbian was its own company, which Nokia eventually bought out. This new one is Linux based and a lot more flexible.

Good for them. I'd consider the N900 over my droid if I could use it with Verizon, but I can't.

Yes it is.

It's made by both Nokia and Intel. Actually, at the moment they have two separate versions (based on their respective linux projects) just sharing a name.

Well, it's nice to see Nokia finally forming a strategy of some sort. It barely seems worth it for them to go it alone, except they're trying to compete in the same services market that Google is, not just be a hardware vendor.
