And I'm terribly disappointed. This is one ugly design schema, and while this is leaked, it's been leaked from several different sources. See articles.

I'm sure there are those out there that like the circular camera module contrast to the square body, but to me this is disgusting and even though I've been waiting for this phone since the 808 was announced, I may decide against it solely due to the stark design of it. Ugh. :(

In terms of design, this phone is fail to me; not just because it has a circle for the camera module, but because the lack of design conformity. Look at the big picture. In that big picture that camera module stands out as "not fitting" with the body.

Specs via GSMArena.

Edit: I own an N8. Stop assuming I'm expecting there not to be a hump for the large sensor. Please read the thread so I don't have to keep repeating myself here!

Updates:
  • Unlocked price has been leaked as a reasonable $602 USD
  • Official name is leaked as being Lumia 1020

What were you expecting? You kinda need a hump for such a camera and it's not like the 808 was a cupcake.

No, no, no. I completely expected the hump. I have an N8 and love it. I guess you missed my point of the contrast between round and square.

Looks fine to me. Actually looks kinda sexy.

And the contrast between the square body and round camera lens area is reminiscent of... just about every camera ever made.

Looks alright. Pretty much what I expected given the Lumia and 808 designs. The rectangular, squared-off look with subtle curvature around the body isn't dissimilar to the 925 or 928. It does make it look flying sauce-like from the top, bottom, and sides, though. :D

The gap between MILCs (forgetting DSLRs for the moment) and smartphones won't be bridged overnight. Aside from the necessary "bump" where the big sensors is, I think it looks pretty sleek. Nokia does polycarbonate/plastic better than Samsung and LG.

I'm more concerned as to what the price will be. I really want to carry around both a Windows Phone and a Android phone (yes, I'm weird for wanting to carry around two phones) and high MP EOS to complement my HTC One would be perfect. I need it off-contract, though, so I'm hoping it's priced under $600. Nokia has made some pretty expensive phones in the past.

I would have bought the 808 PureView if it had been Windows Phone. This is definitely a more attractive option now.

EDIT: Does the XX = 20 Megapixels? Stupid question, I know, since the roman numerals would make it 20, but I thought it was supposed to be 41 Megapixels? Or is XX just a variable or placeholder? I read an earlier article that said there was going to be a 925 variant that had 20 MP, but I guess that rumor could have been about the EOS.

There isn't anything marking this phone as EOS, though. Is it possible it's just a PureView edition of the 925?

Hmm, guess I'm the weird one, huh?

Same for me, I was really interested in the 808 and wanted to buy it, but the fact that it was on a dying (mostly dead) platform was a screaming no for me.

Price will probably be around ~$750 USD for the unlocked international model at release. I'm expecting, anyways.

The XX was just placed there as a sample developer model. It will be 41MP and have several options for end resulting MP.

Yeah, that popped into my head while I was editing my post.

For a second I thought it might have been a 925 variant.
$750 would be a bit too much for me. I hope it's not that much, but it probably would be closer to $800 than $600 in any case, given the hardware and optics.

I kind of prefer the round design. It evokes memories of what older cameras and some modern digital cameras look like. Beyond that I'm not really sure if it matters unless you think there's some kind of practical trade-offs between the two choices.

Ya, I thought of that too. It just doesn't...fit IMHO. I guess I'm biased by the N8's look and having it square would be preferable to me.

I'm not sure what you were expecting. Great camera sensors and thin bodies repel each other like oil and water.

I think it looks pretty nice, part of me thinks they should have just made the phone as thick as the hump and thrown in a huge battery but then there would probably be a lot of people complaining about how huge it is. I could see myself picking this up if it isn't insanely expensive, considering how cheap the 920 was sold for I hope this wouldn't be too much, like 600$ or so.

Yeah, same here.

I don't have to worry though, being on Verizon I won't see anything like this for years. :/

Looks pretty thick anyway, not that that's a problem given the upside.

Kind of want, just not enough to go to a windows phone though.

That's what I was thinking. However, I'd consider it if the phone wasn't ginormous and it could somehow sync to iCloud Address Book and Calendar.

It may seems ugly to the OP but it is still way better than most samsungs and iPhone.

Every point and shoot camera known to man has a square body with round lens.
Did you expect something different ??

Is that a serious question? Both predecessors have square'ish camera module humps (rectangle'ish if we're really being technical).

First post wins.

No but seriously what did you expect OP, the thing is thinner than the lumia 920, except for the hump, 42 MP and a Xenon flash have to go somewhere

No, first post completely lost.

I'll edit the OP to over-emphasize the shape of the hump, not the fact that it needs a hump...since we have a lot of people that can't seem to read properly.

Without an optical zoom, I see no reason for the camera attachment to be round like it is here. Obviously, the camera hole has to be round, but I would have imagined that they could have raised just the camera and left the flashes as separate units and it would have looked better.

Having said that, I'm pretty torn. I want to really like Windows Phone but feel like I have to carry my iPhone with me to get anything done. The other part of me, the former professional videographer, REALLY wants this phone.

Well since it has 42 MP it can do "lossless" digital zooming to a degree, so you end up with a 5MP image, but zoomed in. Pretty neat, I have a Lumia 920 and it suits me great, don't care much for having tons of apps. WP8 has what I use and need, though if you're an app addict don't even consider it for a minute.

Ah, but it does have optical zoom. (see below)

It's truly sad then, that the only thing holding me back right now will be the shape of the camera module. (I'm completely expecting the initial financial investment.) I'll have to make a final decision after holding it, but pictures of it as it stands now are not doing it justice to me.

The specs on the phone are truly amazing though:
  • The screen will be incredible:AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, 768 x 1280 pixels, 4.5 inches (~332 ppi pixel density), Corning Gorilla Glass
  • The camera will be nothing short of ultimate: 41 MP (38 MP effective, 7152 x 5368 pixels), Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Xenon flash, 1/1.2'' sensor size, ND filter, optical zoom, geo-tagging, face detection, 1080p@30fps, optical zoom
  • The ecosystem isn't completely developed, but growing quickly and is sufficient (I don't care about games or frivolous apps)
  • Nokia maps are really remarkable
