It's not an issue of AT&T removing wireless charging feature by shaving costs on units.
The problem here is that a different US carrier has already paid Nokia to make that an "exclusive" feature for them and will market the hell out of it.
This happens all the time thanks to our carrier subsidy system.
One carrier offers wireless charging as an "exclusive" feature with gimped storage, while another carrier offers 32GB(rather than 16GB standard) as an exclusive feature for the same exact device on different carriers.

Is this really hostile towards their OWN customers? I'm sure one carrier(lets say Verizon) is looking out for it's best customers when it offers wireless charging as an "exclusive" feature while the other carrier(lets say AT&T) offers increased built in storage as an "exclusive" feature for the exact same device.

If the international version of these phones ship with wireless charging, then we know that both Nokia(which accepted the bribe) and the wireless carrier(which offered the bribe so they can market it as an a "exclusive" feature for them)

Perhaps you are privy to information that others don't have. But as it stands right now publically:

- the 1520 has been announced as an ATT exclusive.
- The ATT variant seems to drop both the wireless charging AND the storage

There has been nothing announced about VZW having this device, so at this point there is nothing to suggest some sort of tradeoff between carrier variants.

If Nokia signed exclusivity of wireless charging with VZW, well that sucks, but you may want to give a source, I certainly don't recall seeing anything about it.

That still has nothing to do with the storage, I can see no good reason to drop that except a few bucks off each part.

It also does not change my opinion (you are welcome to a differing opinion) that wireless carriers are among the most customer unfriendly businesses out there. Right next to cable companies.

The reason why everyone can assume VZW will get the device as well as wireless charging is... well, look at the past. VZW always has exclusives on wireless charging when it comes to a plethora of phones.

The only case of this I can recall is that of the HTC 8X.

*Looks at his ATT 920 currently sitting on the wireless charging plate*

I am not seeing the pattern here...

I'm just curious as when Nokia will start coming with some new designs.
Their current design was cool when it first came out like over 2 years ago but its getting long in the tooth.
Its the exact design from their low end to top end to phalets and tablets.
I'm rooting for Nokia but its time for some innovation.

Is the new GDR3/black update will benefit somehow for old pureview models like lumia 920 ? For camera stuff i mean since smart cam and pro cam will be merged into one program with additionnal features. If they had manual focus WHILE shooting a video on 920 it'll be just perfect. Only con remaining on 920/925 etc is the high native contrast for photos and videos (it's the trend...) which lead to a lack of details. Manual contrast control woulb de great. The Nokia 808 is so much better is that area, it lacks OIS though.

Actually I play games on Windows with my laptop or desktop.

The simple fact is theres no reason for me to go with windows phone or a RT laptop, it just doesnt offer any advantage over my Note 2, and has some disadvantages.

Laptop for real work, phone for everything else.

This really. Full office on a tablet is... nice I guess. But if I'm in a situation where I need the grunt of a full MS Office package I'll probably want to be using a decent laptop any way at the least.

I'll just go suggest to my wife that she gets a tablet to run Word and Trados on when she next gets a 20K WC translation, I'll post back after she kicks my arse!

Actually found out the truth - Thanks Pocketnow

Seems ATT has buddied up with PowerMat, so they will have the wireless case being PowerMat compatible. I guess if they have a Qi shell available it's not a complete loss, but it's still really annoying.

Overall the industry needs to make one standard - the micro-USB standard has proven to be an overall benefit (I hated years past having to find the right charger for another stupid connector type) for wired charging. Wireless charging needs the same, this pissy little kids game with 3 different standards is obnoxious, and it's going to stunt the development of wireless charging.

The promise of wireless charging is great - you set your device down and it charges. Awesome. But if people get a new phone with wireless charging and then set it down at the coffee shop and nothing happens they're going to be pissed. And they don't care if the coffee shop is paid off by PMA and they have Qi, they just want things to work, and when they don't they will write off the whole idea. So everyone loses.

Oh, and Pocketnow agrees that ATT is cutting the Flash.
