anyone know anything about this? I know the gist of how it should be done, but if anyone can offer any good advice on the soldering, that would be awesome. Oh yeah, I already googled and came up with nothing

I've got an old 7160... and i've only heard very little about the conversion... on a side note, why would you want to use such an old phone anyways

and from what i know, the 7190 is basically the same as the 7160 except the 7160 is TDMA and no autoslide, whereas the 7190 has autoslide and is GSM

yeah i got the phone awhile ago and liked it because the slide actually protects the keys so i dont have to lock keyboard, and the 7190 is thinner than one of those flip phones. i am looking into converting it to autoslide because i have had the 7160 case for a long time and thought it would be cool to convert it now

if you can find one, I think that the "faceplate" of the 7190 fits on the 7160, but the hard part is the button to release it... which is on the back of the phone, towards the top.

i have everything, and i know how to do it. but since it involves soldering a capacitor off the board, i wanted to know if anyone's actually done it and give me some tips.

ahhhh.... now it's a little clearer

well, hmmm..... i don't know anyone who's done that before, nor did i know that it required removing a capacitor from the board. but i would advise using some solder wick to get the solder out of there, but if you can get at it, just try cutting it off or maybe even just yanking it.

perhaps you could post a picture of said area on the board ;)

it's a botched job in terms of the loss of the capacitor. the fact that the phone still works is probably a freak accident of some sort. gotta find a replacement.
