Noisy Hard Drive

I have a Maxtor 40gb drive that is very noisy.

I just purchased a Seagate 120gb and it its next to being silent.

The Maxtor is still under warranty by maxtor till Dec 04. I am wondering if it is worth trying to return this loud drive under warranty? Any one have any experience with Maxtor warranties?

Is the noise new? Have you tried maxtors acoustic management utility, amset? If not, give it a try, it should quiet it down. If this is a new noise, I would recommend running the maxtor diagnostics on the drive, they will require a failure code to return it.
