noisy fan on VIA 266A

The little fan cooling the VIA KT266A has recently become very noisy, mostly a vibrating sort of sound. With my recent purchase of an AX-7 and Enermax fan, that little mini fan on the KT266A is now the noisiest part of my system.

How can I replace or quiet this thing? Is it really necessary or can I remove it and assume the heatsink is good enough?

Once that's done, any recommendations for a quiet 92mm case fan?
 
I had the same problem....I cleaned the fan and tried tightening the screws that secure it and that didn't work 🙁
Then I read in some reviews that the fan is not really needed...try disconnecting it and see how things go for a week.
