noisy CD-ROM when playing audio

when I play an audio CD in foobar2000, the CDROM drive spins at full speed the whole time generating loads of noise.

how can I make it spin at very low speed so it's quiet? (an audio CD only needs 150k/s aka 1x)!
 
hm....my old drive used to know when to be quiet and when to be hi speed I think...
seems like a function most audio/dvd playing apps ought to have
