ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
Intel 4 2.8C
Volcano 7+
2 x Corsair XMS 3500
Radeon 9800 Pro
Seagate 120 SATA

... and it is really noisy! What have I done wrong!?!

i just looked it up and it looks like that volcano can get pretty loud. that's probably the only thing it could be.

Isolate the noise source(s).
Stop a fan, let it go, put your ear next to everything... figure it out

While you are at it, don't let chunks of your ear flying around the case ;)

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried a few things. It seems that the Volcano 7+ is just noisier than I thought it would be. Still, even with the fan speed set to low my motherboard temp is around 26 and my cpu temp is around 33 - so can't complain too much.

how much did you pay for your 9800 pro? I just bought almost exact same system as you, but with no video card. The parts arrive tommorow, and i need a video card!

Oh i chose the raptor instead of a larger capacity sata drive.

I paid $750 (Australian dollars) - about $500 US - and that's cheap for Australia. So not really a good guide for you - sorry about that. I must say though, that the system rocks, the 9800 Pro finishes it off perfectly. I'd be interested to know how fiddly you find installing the USB and internal sound cables - a real pain.

To get better cooling and lower noise, replace that Volcano 7+ with a Zalman CNPS7000 series cooler.
