I started up my computer this afternoon and after a three or four seconds it made a loud roaring noise, like the noise a fan makes when its dying. I rebooted it to see if would go away and it didn't, so i opened my computer up and booted it up again. It sounded like the sound was coming from the top, so i slowed/stopped the cpu fan, rear exhaust fan, northbridge fan, and graphics card fan. None of these stopped it. I unplugged my hard drives and cd drives and this didn't stop it either.
I thought it might be my power supply. So i shut down the comp and got a mechanical pencil to poke through the grill so i could slow it down, cause the grill was too small for my fingers. i turned it on, and put the pencil through the grill so i would be ready to slow the fan when the noise started again, in the process brushing my pencil up against the fan a few times, slowing it. This was all before when the noise normally starts. But the noise didn't start this time, it just booted like normal. I rebooted again to make sure, and it worked fine, with no noise.
Could this mean that i had something in my power supply that was hitting the fan, or is the fan dying, or is the power supply dying, or do you think it is something completely different? Im really very lost as to what caused this, so any help here would be great.
