noise with FPS2000 digital output

Hey guys, I recently bought a digital din adapter for my Creative FPS 2000s to replace my analog connector. Sound quality is fine but unfortunately I get this terrible background static even at low volumes. I dunno what's wrong. I checked the connection to the back and to the subwoofer and they're both in fully. Can someone help stop the noise? BTW my sound card is an audigy 1 and I didn't get any distortion with analog out.
 
With analog out the DAC on the Audigy is used, with digital the one in the FPS2000 is. So if it is not as good then that could simply be the source of the noise.
