Noise, who cares?

Just wondering who really cares about noise anyway...I run all my fans at high speed it does not bother me at all. Better cooling > quieter. I also like the white noise of the fans when I sleep....

You're right, who cares about YOUR post? I sure don't. Less threadcr@pping, more intelligent discussion, please.

I don't really mind air noise(the sound of air wooshing puts me to sleep actually). It's the motor noise that gets me. Put a whiney fan in my case, and I HATE it. I don't care how good it is. The thing is, though, you can have the best of both worlds. It's possible to get great cooling that's quiet! You just have to know what to buy. Get a Zalman/Thermalright HS, a Arctic Cooling VGA silencer, a PSU with a 120MM fan, one or two panaflo case fans. Bingo, you got a dead quiet system with excellent cooling, even when OC'ed.

Like sonic, I don't mind the air whooshing. I absolutely hate a loud motor, or blades that cause a whine/whistling. I can't stand one ticking either!! Drives me nuts.

That is true, although sometimes its a trade off of: more $ = quiet vs. louder fans. Then there is also the variable speed fans that you can control (like the ones I have but never change the speed)

i agree with crabby up there. i got a generic 120mm fan and the air isn't bad but motor makes more noise than my heatsink

What kind of heatsink makes noise? 😀

I heard Vantec's tronado fans are really loud. But loud as in what? Whining noise? Lots of air going through it?

Tornados are around 55 dBA+. To put that in perspective, 60 dBA is about normal talking conversation level. 70 dBA is as loud as street traffic.

HOWEVER, if there is no music playing, so TV on, the room is otherwise quiet, and you're less than 2ft from the noise source then 50 decibels is loud.

The way we percieve sound pressure is relative. If you're at a loud club, and someone drops a tray of drinks you hardly notice. If you're at a nice restaurant and someone drops the same tray it seems very loud.
