I've got a nice zippy IBM 30Gig 75GXP, I'd like to get a second hard drive, probably in the 40-45gig range, and the maxtor is a fair bit cheaper than the IBM...I'm thinking I'll load my OSes/Games/Progs on the Maxtor and fire Virutal memory over to the IBM, then I get fast Virtual memory independant of my main apps drive (with 384MB of RAM that's probably not a "huge" deal..but what the heck...why not?)

I've only owned one maxtor drive, and it was a 6gig 5400rpm and god damn it it was loud, I'm not terribly picky about noise (my dual YS Tech fans on my P7125 don't bother me in the least) but this drive was ridiculous...it made my pioneer 10x DVD rom sound very quiet...maybe there was something wrong with it? But anyhow...is the Dmax+45 series reasonably quiet? Doesn't have to be silent...like I said 2 YS Tech fans don't bug me....but reasonable noise level would be nice.

The Maxtors are rather quiet.... they also have something called acoustic managment which you can turn off to get more performance for a bit more noise.
