I'll make this short. I live on the 3rd floor of an apt.

Can someone file a noise complaint against you at noon for watching a movie? I would understand if it's at midnight, but noon??? Come on.

I have surround sound(the sub isn't powered), but the volume level was in the -40db range.

At noon? Tell them to fuck off and buy some damn earplugs, assuming of course you're using a somewhat normal listening volume and not blasting it so you can hear it clearly throughout your entire abode.

It'll depend on noise regulations in your complex, and ordinances in your city.

I'd tell them to blow it out their ass, except maybe the apartment complex has rules on it.

Most municipalities have decibel limits that are more stringent after 9 or 10 p.m. Some police departments are outfitted with meters so they can determine if a complaint is legitimate (whether you're exceeding the limit).

Someone can file a noise complaint and claim that you read your newspaper too loudly. Whether or not it's legitimate is another question altogether. ;)

Of course they can, but it depends on many other things (how loud it was, city by-laws, strata by-laws, prior complaints against you, etc.) whether it will actually be acted upon.

Wow quite sad someone would complain at 12:00. Some people just like to complain because it gives them a sense of power.

I like my house. I can watch a war movie at full volume at 3:00am if I wanted to. :D

Well I know that "can" file a complaint. :p

This guy has complained a couple of time before at like 2 and 4 in the afternoon. This last time I had enough and told him where he can stick his noise complaint.

Nobody else in the apartment complex needs to hear your inconsiderate self thumping your stereo away at any time of the day or night. They have a right to privacy, peace and quiet in their own homes. I'd report you too, in an instant, if you kept it up after an initial courtesy notification. First to the apartment complex, then to the cops. Stop being so immature and disrespectful and show some consideration for your fellow man.

So glad I live in a house now...

Did I say I was thumping it??

Did I say I was being inconsiderate??

The have the right to quiet, but I don't have the right to watch a movie with surround sound?

I said I was watching a movie at noon at normal levels. I'm supposed to sit around on pins and needles hoping I don't make a sound in THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON so I don't make some dbag upset?? Give me a break.

If your neighbors can hear it, and it bothers them, then it was too loud. Why should their personal space be invaded by your stereo noise? Guess what genius...if they can hear it in THEIR apartment, I'm pretty sure you can hear it just fine in YOUR apartment. Maybe THEY don't want to hear YOUR crap, and why should they?

Grow up. The world doesn't revolve around you.

Did you fail basic English?

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/inconsiderate

"Inconsiderate:

without due regard for the rights or feelings of others"

You obviously don't care about how your neighbors feel, because you are selfish, hence this thread, and you acting indignant that you can't play your stereo as loud as you want whenever you want.

Ok asshole! I told you to turn that shit down. It sounds like a home made video of a guy and a donkey going at it...I read these forums too, some of us work night shift, and dickwads like you make my life a living hell.

I'm calling the cops!

You are assuming that your neighbors sleep at night.
Any noise that leaves your apart, emt and enters mine pisses me off. If im on night shift and sleeping at noon then doubly so. I'd knock on your door first though. I'm sure the thought of ever seeing me in my boxers again would keep you from turning the sound up again.

file a complaint that your neighbor complains too much and its making it hard for you to watch movies at noon at a normal noise level.

OR

go have a heart to heart with said neighbor and figure out what the real issue is. He proly works nights and needs his beauty rest. OR hes just an old grumpy d-bag, OR he/she has kids that are napping.

If you want to be noisy, don't live in an apartment.

This

Get some headphones. If you had to listen to what someone else was doing a lot you'd be pissed off too more than likely. If you really want to run stuff loud enough to be heard outside your appartment either take some steps to cancel it (hang carpets on the walls or whatnot) or move to a house where you don't have to risk being a douchebag to people just trying to relax in their own space.

Well, as others have pointed out, people can complain/file a complaint about anything they want. Of course, if they will be taken seriously is another matter.

I just want to be clear, your contention is that loud noise should only be a problem late at night because everyone sleeps late at night and trying to sleep is the only valid reason someone has to complain about noise, is that correct? I ask because if that is what you are implying, you are so wrong it really doesn't warrant discussion.

I actually left a nice apartment complex because homeboy below me thumped his subwoofer at all times of the day and night. I work rotating shifts, so there were times that I was sleeping during the day. Kind of hard to do when the floor is vibrating. The apartment management didn't care much, so I moved out when my lease was up. I have a home theater with a powered sub, but I rarely used it.

I'm in a townhouse now and I'm still a little hesitant to really use the sub. Although it seems like they got the sound deadening right. I have yet to hear my neighbors.

People like you ruin apartments for all of us normal people.

I am in the process of renting out my house and getting an apartment closer to work, I am DREADING the risk of having someone like you as a neighbor.

My upstairs neighbor was thumping his music at in the early evenings on the weekends. It was LOUD. The people that lived above him hated it also. We both complained because it was ridiculous.

The bass was thumping through the floor into our apartment. The sound was even worse traveling up to the top floor. I walked outside and I could hear every lyric from the song perfectly. When I walked upstairs and went down about three apartment doors (which was the standard when I lived in the dorms) I could STILL hear the music.

We complained. He's turned it down since then. Thankfully he's going to be gone in January. We can't do much about him stomping around at 4am though. :(
