Hi, I have had this power supply for about a month now and recently i hear a "whirring" sound coming out of it. I believe it is from the back fan because when I listen closely, I use the dust off dust spray and spray onto the PS fan while it is running and it stops the "whirring" sound. How can I fix this problem? Is there a way I can put a different fan in there, like a panaflo? Please offer some advice because the sound is driving me crazy.

I changed the fans in my enermax pretty easily... you just open it up and splice in the wiring.

The PSU is still under warranty and if you care about that, then send it back. You can replace the fan, but it will void your warranty. I replaced both fans on my Truepower 430 with Panaflo L1As (80mm in back, 92mm on the bottom). The PSU is still working great and the fans still run around 5V.

Are the fans hard to replace? Also, what kind of precautions should I know before I go ahead and replace my fans with panaflos because I don't want to get shocked or anything.

Everyone says different things on how long you should wait to go inside the PSU, but if you are really unsure of what you are doing then the longer the better. At the very least wait 20 min-1 hour. The last time I modded my PSU I accidently opened it up and removed the fans with it still running and it was fine. The key is not touching the capacitors or anything besides the outside case, fans and wires. To replace the fans you will have to cut the connectors off the old ones and put them on the Panaflos. Soldering them on is the best way, but wire cap things or just crimping them together is fine as long as they stay together and have a good connection. After the new fans are on, put the PSU back together and test it out. Pay careful attention for the first day or two to make sure both fans are running.

Honestly, it is extremely easy to do.

Dude just go to the drugstore and pick up some latex gloves. You should be able to retain enough touch with them to do the work but still be protected against shock. As long as you don't let any sharp metal parts punch through the latex. :)

I didn't bother waiting any additional time when replacing the fans in 2 PSUs. It probably took me close to 20 minutes from the time I unplugged the computer to the time I finished to disconnect all the power cables from the devices in the case and wrestle the PSU out. Just take the time you would have waited after getting the PSU out and do a good job. You'll only be working with the fan wires, so you shouldn't be poking or messing around with capacitors. Take your time and use common sense. You'll live to post another day. :)

Is this true? Why do all the electronics gurus not mention this when you hear all kinds of warnings about opening up electronics. I've always been scared to try to work on a broken TV and a monitor I have.

well, actually, you can get hurt working with TV's. my uncle opened up one for us (we were trying to fix my grandma's tv) and said if you touch this one part, you'd get shocked really badly. cause i guess there's high voltage or something. cause TV's have this electron gun, right?

considering you spend premium money for the supply, wouldn't break the warrantee by opening it. send it back.

i don't bother splicing wires, i just string the wire through a psu grate and connect em like normal case fans.

considering there is a 3 year warranty ont hat PSU id just send it back to antec and have them fix it and go with out a comp for a week or two and get back on track with my weight lifting and my life :)

take advantage of the warranty and let them screw with it.
