Like in a microphone? Lol, just kidding. You mean a completely silent case. Yea it's possible, if everything was passively cooled which right now doesn't seen too likely. Zalman's coming out with a nice heatpipe case, but I think, even then, your PSU will have a fan, and in some cases your northbridge for your motherboard. But with this technology I wouldn't be surprised that we can do it in the near future.

i think user actually meant with sensors and speakers to cancel out the noise that's given off by the components in the computer.

i've thought about this, but it just doesn't seem reasonable at this time... maybe in the future tho.

it is quite an interesting idea, and quite possible too. In fact, I believe the only thing stopping implementation for this is the (probably) bulky setup, as well as lack of true omni-directional speakers.

There are a couple problems he'll run into:

1) Since it sounds like he wants the case to be silent from any position in the room, he'll have to locate the noise-cancelling speakers inside the case, as close to the noise source as possible. If he sticks the speakers anywhere else, he won't be able to simultaneously cancel the case noise everywhere in the room.

2) He has to be able to sample the noise, invert it then emit the 'anti-noise' fast enough. This sort of thing is difficult to do with consumer sound cards. People trying to do real-time guitar effects through their sound card frequently run into this problem. His best bet might be to find a cheap set of noise-cancelling headphones, rip out the microphone and DSP circuit and use it to control his speakers.
