why?

its good for engine noise..repetitive low frequency stuff like on planes. its not going to do squat against most other things. and you gotta have good head seal...closed and covering ears very well like the bose ones(shudup bose haters). so on top of the ear pad type headphones are a bit of a joke as noise canceling.

Considering why you are wanting these, (your other threads) they really aren't going to help with the problem of the truck noises. If anything, it will only prolong the problem, because everytime you take the headphones off, you'll hear the noise, and it will be back to square one again...If you CAN'T tolerate the noise, moving will be your best option.

i fly a lot and have a pair of the bose ones. they are like 300 bux, but by far the best noise cancelllation on the market. would HIGHLY recommend. go to a bose store and try them out.

I feel so much better after a flight when i wear them.

I'd get used to the noise first (from your other thread). Trying to block it out will just lengthen the period that it bothers you. Are you buying these to listen with or just to wear while doing activites around the house? If it's former, definitely DON'T buy noise canceling headphones. Get something that actually sounds good and passively blocks out noise. If the noise bothers you enough that you feel the need to wear headphones JUST to block noise move somewhere else.

edit: too many typos...

try getting In Ear Monitors from Shure, Ultimate Ears, or Etymolic (sp...). should've quoted bum for truth, because he's right. In Ear Monitors are the next best thing to active noice cancelling. As an alternative, you could get Sennheiser HD280 Pros, for around $80. They are huge, but they isolate like nothing i've ever tried.

Good point, I didn't think of IEMs. If properly fitted those block out noise the best and are portable to boot. For a house headphone, though, I'd just stick with standard circumaural closed cup 'phones. HD280s would be a great choice.
