Noise Cancelling Headphones

Hi. I was looking at picking up some noise cancelling headphones, and was wondering what was the best pair under $200 (unfortunately, this excludes the Bose QuietComfort 2). I'm leaning towards the Sennheiser PXC250.

what kind of noise are you trying to muffle? active noise cancelling mostly works on low freq mechanical noise like on airplanes..

I wanted it mainly for airplanes (I'm going on several trips this summer) and noisy places.

I just bought a set of those PXC250 for airplane trips. While I have yet to try them out on an airplane, I do have a window air conditioning unit that emits a roar similar to jet engines. I can turn on the active noise cancelling unit of the headphones and have my head right next to the AC unit and barely hear the AC roar, pretty nifty!

I tried one pair (family received as gift) a long time ago and it the noise-cancellation added noise. Modern ones would be better I suppose, but I would consider headphones that go right into your ears. For $200 you can get the etymotic ER4S or ER4P which everyone raves about. Apparently they block out almost all noise and sound amazing.
