I know, Bose sucks for what you pay for them, but was wondering if the new QC3 headphones are better than the QC2's. Seems like the QC3 is smaller, does it do a better job of noise cancellation than the QC2?

Yeah Bose sucks. Go get yourself a pair of older Sennheisers and do the right thing.

HD280 recommended highly for sound cancelling. Can get them for about $60-70 around the net. Please, don't buy Bose.

HD280 doesn't do noise cancelling. They're just very tight fitting closed headphones. I'd suggest something along the lines of IEM for airplane rides. These type of phones go inside your ear tunnel, blocking up to 20 dba of sound. And they sound way better than anything Bose offers. Look up Shure, Ultimate Ears, Etymotic.

IEM's or even better good earplugs.

I have a bottle of 31 db foam plugs that cost me like $7, they do wonders for plane rides.

First off, I own the Ultimate Ears UE-5c, which are IEMs, and while they're very expensive, they offer noise reduction more then the Bose QC2. My dad owns the QC2, so yeah, I'd know. Even with no music playing, I can barely hear someone talking to me when they're sitting next to me. It's insane.

Now, as for the QC2 vs. QC3, if you're set on one of the two, get the QC2. The QC2's are more comfortable, since they're a closed set of cans, opposed to the open QC3's. The slight extra weight is worth it.

Just wanted to chime in with this. Stay as far away from the Sony MDR NC11's as you can. They are junk. They break easily and don't stay in the ear due to extremely poor design.
