Back to the original question, I would think that having the fans at the same height would be better. It appears that it is expected that this cooler will overhang the memory slots:

No disagreement for the assertion with that cooler. You expect this trouble with the memory slots. If I'd chosen G.SKILL Tridents instead of RipJaws, I would've been in a pickle.

It would seem desirable if one could get all the air flowing through those fans to exhaust without mixing with other case-interior air. Just another reason I think that any single-tower heatpipe cooler that outperforms a D15 is the best way to go -- for clearing the RAM and for less reliance on oversized fans. And the only thing better than the single-tower heatpipe would be an AiO that can't be matched with ducting mods on a heatpipe.
