Hi,
I'm building a p6x58d-premium with a i7 930 1366 and I'm putting it into a last generation Alienware case that has a 120mm fan on the door that is hitting the D14 when I try to close it.

I haven't actually installed the D14 on yet, I just did a dry mount with the motherboard and heat sink to see if they fit so I should be able to send it back.

The D14 looks to be about an inch too tall for the door to close. So I was wondering if anyone could give me some options on a shorter fan that will cool safely for a bit of overclocking?

Thanks
Marc

why not just take the fan off the door? with a little modding you could even install the fan on the outside of the case :)

Wouldn't taking the fan off mess up the air flow and pressure. I don't really want a fan mounted on the outside of the case.

I do have a Corsair H50 my wife gave me for Christmas that I've heard bad stuff about so it's still in the box. Now I'm think of using this and mounting the radiator on the door.

lmao what bad stuff have you heard about it? the H50 is a good cooler if you have it, easily as good as your noctua. sounds like you have your fix :)

Mount the side fan on the outside of the case, rather than inside?

Thats what i did with my p190, any fan that sits over the cpu will interfere with a tower cooler since they're made to be as tall as possible inside a case.

While the H50 isn't as good as the Noctua, it's pretty decent and a good choice if high 120mm tower coolers won't fit your case.

If you have two other 120mm case fans in that case you can also just remove the fan in the door, case ventilation will definitely be adequate.
