Nobody falls down any wells anymore. Have we reached the pinnacle of well safety?

As an avid well-watcher, I've noticed that not many people seem to be falling down wells anymore. A Google News search seems to confirm my theory that humans may have finally conquered the scourge of dangerous open wells, much in the way we virtually eliminated malaria and smallpox. Kudos, fellow primates.:D

Seriously for a minute though, does anyone remember all the news stories in the late eighties or early nineties about kids falling down wells? There were at least two summers where the media was absolutely obsessed with kids down wells. The governor would usually step in and order special well-fighting equipment in from the other side of the country to get the child out in time. How weird that we never anything like this these days.

LOL, nice.

No, I was sully far before they were sully. I've never seen them perform, but I am on their mailing list. Strangely we're even from the same hometown.

Yet people still get hit by trains. How in the blue hell do you get hit by a train?

Darwin would call it Natural Selection.

Anyway, I think it was because of all the crap in the eighties and nineties that wells are so safe now. Its not that hard to put a grating on top of a well, now is it?

the reason you don't hear about people falling down wells anymore is because the well are all full of stupid people ;)

STFU, I'm posting from a well. Fortunately I have my lappy with me and someone has an unsecured wireless network around here.

You STFU!

And, while you're down there, put that lotion on your skin or you'll get the hose again!

Heh heh heh heh!!! You all overlooked the most likely reason for no stories about people falling down wells and getting injured!!

Because yllus sucks at googling! :p

I'll just use the most recent one I found on Google (along with many many others)
At least four deaths have been blamed on the weather. A 69-year-old Washington County man, James Wood, died Monday when he fell into a well while trying to thaw a frozen pump near his Donegal Township home

btw, why would you search for "people falling down well"

Falling is an active verb... You need to use PAST tense. News isn't that quick!
(or, alternatively, wells aren't that deep: "This just in. Witnesses are reporting that people are falling down the well. It is expected that they reach the bottom some time tomorrow.")

Try this search: "fell into a well" +injured
There ya' go :p :)

hahaha! Well, I used those search terms in my link for comic intent. I did just use your search terms and really only came up with two recurring stories: One, a guy falling down a well in India (the 3rd world always lags) and two, some story about a guy's penis being deformed when he fell down a well. :Q
