I just got a 5.1 home theature system (i cant spell) and and HDTV. When I hook my Xbox up to my tv with my HDTV AV pack, and hook the red and white audio cables into my sound systems audio in port, i can only hear sound out of my front 2 speakers and the subwoofer. How come? the HDTV pack should be able to output surround sound. When i watch DVDs however, i get the full system working. Help would be appreciated

thanks

You need to use a digital cable to connect from the av pack (the black connector with the door) to your stereo. The white/red cables are just left/right channels AFAIK.

No.

Edit: Yes, the adapter is available. It's called a Dolby Digital 5.1 home theater receiver. Many companies make this 'adapter'. :)

No digital in means no surround sound from the Xbox. Might want to invest in a cheap surround sound receiver. I've seen some deals recently on a pretty good Sherwood 5.1 receiver for like $80ish.

I think your just missing it.On the back of your surround sound there should be a black(or other color)little plug you pull that out and there is a cable called optical(go to radio shack or best buy)that goes from that hole to the same type of plug on you xbox hd thing. The cable a little costly 20-30 bucks I think just to let you know. But I highly doubt that you ss doesn't have this plug.

You could just use the Xbox as the DVD player

Edit: Nevermind, I just noticed you wanted progressive scan (which the Xbox can do, but only if it's modded)
