...cause its BLOODY expensive!

A base model MINI Cooper starts off at $25k CDN. That's base model with out any options. A base model MINI Cooper S starts off at $29k CDN. A fully loaded MINI Cooper S is friggin $39k CDN!!! With taxes and what not, that'll come out to ~$45k CDN!!

For a BLOODY MINI! For comparision (and I know they are not in the same market segment), a fully loaded 350Z Track is around $42k CDN. Sure with taxes it'll be a bit more than the MINI Cooper S, but dang...BMW really priced up that car!

No wonder its not that popular around here. I mean you do see them every now and then, but only in the well-to-do areas (the same place you see Ferraris and Porsches and etc..)

Is it possible for a Canuck to buy a U.S. spec car, drive it to Canada and register it there?

not really. auto climate control, trip computer, etc.. are all optional.

Its not possible for us to buy a US car and register it in Canada since it would cost us more. CDN cars are usually cheaper compared to US cars since we have less disposable income and higher taxes. Most people think of buying cars in Canada and registering them in the US since its cheaper for you guys.

Regardless, the MINI is expensive for what you get.

I thought the MINI Cooper was marketed as a simple, cheap, yet fun commuter car??

Thats because your looking at it in canadian dollars. 45K CDN in USD would be what...about ten, fifteen bucks? Even i can cover that.

$45K CDN = $30K USD with a currency rate of 1.5 CDN to 1 USD.

WRONG!

It's a toy for the trendy people.
