Australia is an interesting case study, where a very liberal slanted government and country realizes that their policies simply can't work with an unending tide of illegal immigrants.

I thought it was well-established that Australia was full of xenophobic rednecks.

You are living in an illusion if you think they will welcome you there. There is a great dislike of Americans (called seppos insultingly) there, to say the least

?? I never had any problem and I lived there for years. Seppos is short for septic tank, which is some cockney rhyming thing for yank. Weird but it's only mildly insulting. They call Brits "poms" and New Zealanders "Sheep shaggers" among other things...it's just the way they are.

They also have a publicly funded universal health care system. I think some of the people admiring Australia in this thread may want to reconsider.

Just because one admires one particular aspect of another country doesn't mean you have to admire all aspects. With this particular issue, the Aussies are doing the smart thing. In other ways, they are not (internet censorship being a good example).

Freaking commies, they might as well be in bed with Uncle Joe Stalin

When you provide universal health care you are infecting the population with communism. Next there will be fluoride in the water and the pollution of precious bodily fluids.
