The first season of Prison Break was great. It just went downhill when it was extended past the first season. None of the stuff that made the first season interesting really applied once they were out of that specific prison.

As far as another X-Files goes, I'm down. I always felt Fringe was an extended X-Files, and I wouldn't mind watching a show like that now. I just hope they don't do a total reboot and recast Mulder and Sculley.

I loved the X-Files but I'm not sure if I want it back. It's really a show that was a product of its time. I'm not really sure what they could do to make it fresh again.

Just shows that they really are running out of ideas. I keep hearing that this is the new "golden age" of television, but I think that only applies to cable. Network TV has really gone downhill.

I hope there's more of a government conspiracy theme if there is a reboot. Non of that weird murder shit.

The "golden age" of TV was in the 80's. Now there's mostly trash/reality TV which all sucks!

I loved X-files when it was on, but will it be viable now with shows like Grimm and Constantine? They seem to be getting good ratings so that's probably why Fox wants to bring it back.

Yes Grimm (which I enjoy) has good ratings.

Unfortunately Constantine (which I also enjoy) doesn't. In fact, talk is it will be canceled if it hasn't been already...which sucks.

My guess is that it will happen, but it will be cancelled during the first season.

Why would you want to reboot it? Did they not tell all of the stories they wanted to tell?

Besides the obvious that they want to make money.

My problem is this - what are they going to investigate?

I watched it again a while back, and I frequently thought about how the wide availability of mobile communications and recording devices would kill the mystery.

Well they pretty much only investigated aliens at the end and an invasion was imminent. That storyline was boring as hell and ran the show into the ground (although it shouldn't have).

I really don't know where they'd pick up unless it was like Fringe and it picked up years later after the invasion. Wouldn't really be X-Files, it'd be Falling Files.

Why do we need X-Files when we already have about 1000 alien shows on the History Channel?

Did they ever do a BluRay set of the original X-Files? Seems like a no-brainer tie in to release one with a reboot.

why Blu Ray? considering the time period, I would not be surprised if it was shot on Mini-DV or something like that, and thus eternally stuck in 580p, or whatever that was. :D

Most of the people with phones have them pointed at themselves. People are wrapped up in the own little worlds and hardly look around anymore.

Twice in my life I have seen something I can't explain with witnesses. I would kill to have those moments on film with a decent camera.

It will be a limited run if they reboot it.

You can blame the Writer's Guild strike a few years back. "Reality TV" is cheaper to produce than scripted television.

With today's flooded media environment, it's hard to produce original content. More so original content that people will watch and keep watching. That's why successful ideas keep getting recycled. Networks don't want to take risks anymore. Plus they're boxed in by FCC regulations that cable doesn't have to deal with. So you don't get the same kind of gritty programming people are crazy about right now. Network is dying, fast.

Further review shows that it has been remastered into widescreen and is airing that way on German TV. So they must have plans to release it that way, they just have not done it yet. Either they're not 100% done yet or are waiting for some other reason.

stupid idea. they had 7 good seasons out of 9 and all the writers have moved on. all they'd get is probably a dozen episodes of awkward shit.

I just cannot see how this can turn out to be a good show. Its akin to 'Breaking Bad' fans expecting great things from 'Better Call Saul', but at least with that example they only have a 2 year time-frame from BBs end to BCS debut. With X-Files, we are talking about 12+ YEARS here.

I was a huge X-Files fan, but my expectations for this reboot are extremely low. I'd prefer to watch X-files reruns.

Writer's Guild must have cried bitter tears when Survivor debuted. From then on every negotiation with suits must have started off with "Yeah but, reality tv". Sad thing about TV today is that the original X Files never would have made it in the current climate of television. The show had low ratings for it's first couple of seasons before it became a smash hit. But these days you get canceled seemingly for not rocketing out of the gate and staying there. So much brain drain and so much impatience. I cut the cord myself.

Fox is really that out of ideas? First they bring back 24, now X-Files.

How about they bring some of the shit they killed too early back like Firefly or Terminator: SCC...

Not a bad idea. I thought Drive was kind of interesting and Fillion was good in it.

Better Call Saul is fun though. Not epic, but fun. I hope this reboot is fun too. Don't expect more

Point taken. I have to admit, I don't want to risk the heartbreak that may occur to my beloved X-Files, but I will DVR it and see what you guys think before investing quality time into it.

The comparison of ratings today versus 93 when the XFiles debuted is flawed in general. A quick check shows that the first season finale for the XFiles garnered 14M viewers, and a not terribly great 105th ranking, sounds poor to not even make the top 100...

Contrast this with the finale numbers from last season's top finale, 16M for NCIS. In the 100th position was Bob's Burgers with a whole 2M.

Television viewership has dropped significantly in the past 20 years, at the time when the XFiles debuted not even getting into the top 100 was enough to rival the viewership of top shows today.

This goes a long way to explaining why shows not making the top numbers today are dropped fast, there simply isn't enough viewers to support it.
