Perhaps it's simply a cultural thing. I even remember an episode of MTV's Cribs that showed some guy talking about his pool and how he's never been in it - and made some comment like "You know us black folks and swimmiing don't mix."

So yeah, it's not like a totally foreign idea or concept from this guy - there is some history of it, whether true or not.

I'm neither a Republican or Democrat (I dislike both parties), but Republicans, IMO, are genuinely less racist than Democrats, even though it may not seem like it on the outside.

My dad is black and my mom is white, and I simply CANNOT SWIM! It's crazy, I think it's my bone density. My body just will not float. I've tried everything it's impossible.

I didnt take his words as a future congressman but as a former commander who knew the demigraphic of his men in his company. If the majority of his men were black and they were crossing a river and he knows from past experience that most of the black soldiers he has commanded did not know how to swim then thats a problem and as a commander he needs to address it. he is responsible for the safty of his men.

I grew up around black people and here's how it was explained to me: The reason most white people like to go to the beach/pools/etc., isn't really to swim, it's to sunbathe - something black people would have little use for. What is REALLY funny about this is that what he said was political suicide not due to the demographic innaccuracy of his statement (it was based, as he said, on his experiences), but rather the hypersensitivity of people to racially based statements.
