no video!!!

Hello everyone. I recently just like four minutes ago built my computer again and i installed everything properly and everything is running correctly but I have no video on my monitor. I turn it on and I get a green light and shortly after, I get an orange light and nothing happens. So I think its the video card but its a brand new retail one. So my question is is there anything i did wrong or what? My specs are:

AMD 2500+ 333mhz retail <works because i hear it processing stuff and i get an orange busy light on my led panel
768 geil dragon ram retail < workes because the 2 lights go on
ati 9800 pro 256mb retail < i think its fine becasue the fans are moving
asus a7n8x deluxe mobo retail < seems to work becasue it starts my computer and onboard leds turn on

So there you go. Everything is new and still no video. I have a warranty for all the parts but I dont want to waste shipping money for no reason. Thank you for all the support. I hope you can help me. I appreciate it. Thankx again.

what kind of monitor are you using? if it's an lcd it could be as simple as it looking for an analog signal while you are sending it a digital one.

hehe you knw, there should be a sticky on top of the tech support forum saying: "BEFORE YOU POST HERE, DID YOU RESET THE CMOS?"

Now..do you get any warning beeps at all? or non?

What brand power supply are you using?

Check your BIOS settings... There is an option for which type of video to use at startup, PCI or AGP. Not sure of the exact wording. I have the same problem if I don't change it from PCI (Default) to AGP.

If it's all new stuff, and all the defualt settings, i'll bet $ that this is your problem.

you'd lose your money man 😉. that just tells the system where to look for a video card 1st, if it don't find a pci video card it then looks to onboard/agp for an active video card.

No I would not man. My ABIT IS7 WILL NOT BOOT if it is set incorectly. That's not the first Mobo that I have seen that has the same problem either. 9 times outta 10 I would say you were correct though.

Thankx firstly....

Well i cant get into the system bios...The thing doesnt even show post or anyting for that matter...i tried sawpping the monitor and still nothing...as for the graphic card...i plugged another AGP card in and i stiil had nothing...then i tried a PCI video card and i still had no luck...so that either tell me my slots arent working or all of my cards arent working...the cards work on my other computer though...

As for my mother board, I found a scratch (probably due to heatsink installation) on my mobo near the CPU...it cut like a few of the onboard painted circuits...could that be the reason? It is a deep like millimeter cut i would say. And thank you for all the responses...I appreciate it a lot.

A scratch could cause your problem. If it's in an area where you see the curcuts, it's a pretty good chance. If it's just a blank area of PCB board, less of a chance.

Take the Mobo out of the case and set on something non-conductive. Then hook up the power, RAM, and Video card/monitor, only. Maybe the mobo is shorting on the case somehow. That's not going to help you if the scratch is the problem though.

Try a new mobo.

You did remember to plug in the 12V power cable to your 9800 pro, didn't you?

Sounds like that is your problem,nothing you can really do except get it repaired by Asus.
