no video with .avi files

When I try to play a .avi file, I can hear the sound but there is no video. How can I fix this?

Download G-spot Appliance to identify what codecs you are missing.
It's very likely you are missing the codec.

Download and install this codec pack to take care of pretty much all your video playback needs.

 

[gsellis]

And chances are it is the DivX codec.
