No Video Signal!!

Every time i boot, i get the long-short-short beeps and i get no signal to my monitor. if i press ctrl-alt-del, i get a regural post, everythings normal. plus, if i reboot from windows, or even power off, then power back on it's fine...only if i wait a while before powering on do i get the error. just starting happening with my new vid card:
guillemot gts pro
abit kt7
Leo 17" monitor
Any suggestions?

Make sure the card is firmly seated and level in the slot, and make sure the screw is firmly tightened.

tried re-setting...no luck..same problem,
and it does do something even without the video signal...i can hear the hard-drive being accessed...i wait until it stops than press ctrl-alt-del...when the comp starts again, i get the screen telling me that windows did not load completely, and gives the option of starting in safe mode.

1 long 2 short beeps is the common error code for video card failure or video card ram.
Did this just start when you got this vid card?
If you were you I'd try to replace it.

Best regards,
Ivar

Did you follow standard procedure when installing the new video card? (set to VGA, uninstall old drivers, etc)? Is your monitor cable connected firmly?

See if you can boot up into safe mode and check your BIOS setup.

Trust me 🙂
If you look up BIOS error codes, for your particiliuar motherboard, you will see that 1 long beep and 2 short beeps is indication of video card or video ram/rom failure.
Or to be exact: (quote taken from some bios error page)
"Video configuration failure or option ROMs check-sum failure."

With best regards
Ivar

i do trust you...just pointing out that i can boot up into windows after pressing ctrl-alt-del, and when i do that, i just get the one beep.

Hehe 🙂

I once repaired a machine that sometimes beeped like this, sometimes not. Sometimes you would have to ctrl-alt-del to restart the machine again after the beeping. This particiliuar machine had the video card integraded on the motherboard, I replaced the mobo and VOILA! the problem was history.
It's prolly your video card acting up. If you've recently bought it there should be in warranty, replace it and try a new one 🙂

With best regards,
Ivar

thanks for the replies...just got the card today...and the first one they sent me last week was lost...not the easiest buying experience

My cynical nature tells me they sent you a card out of the junk box of returns to replace the lost one and make you, the current headache, go away.

I had a similar problem. Check your bios and make sure the "Init display first" option is set to PCI (even if you have an AGPcard) (you can find it in the Integrated Peripherals-section).
