I have a Compaq Presario 1075 laptop computer that appears to boot just fine but the screen remains blank. I say it appears to boot fine because I can hear it power up and the music that plays when Windows 98 is loaded.

I tried connecting the laptop to a desktop monitor and rebooting but the desktop monitor remained blank as well.

I connected another laptop to the monitor and the display works properly on both that laptop and the monitor.

I assume this means that the problem is not with the screen but with the video card/mobo. On a laptop, I assume video is integrated onto the mobo and therefore this lappy is probably ready for the dumpster?

Possibly the last option is to go thru the process of resetting your BIOS (call Compaq, get teh exact procedure and do it even though you cannot see the screen).

Have you tried an fn-key combination. Don't know what the compaq combo is, but it is usually fn and one key between f1 and f5 that switches between lcd, external monitor, and even tv (if available). It's a shot in the dark (no pun intended) for you. If you have one, try pressing the reset switch.
If the video chip was bad, the laptop probably wouldn't get past POST. From my experience (not with Compaqs) it is odd to have both the internal and external video go bad at the same time.
