No video on boot with new P5Q deluxe

Hey all,

So I picked up one of these boards to go with a new Q9550, Corsair DDR-1066, and HD4870.

I just got around to installing it all today, but on booting, no video, just black screen. The HD activity suggests it's booting up, but can't see anything.

I saw that this might be due to a short, so I pulled the board and booted outside the case with minimal components. It booted ok then, so I reinstalled, test-booting as I connected various components, eventually it booted into windows no problem.

But I was installing the new drivers, and on reboot, same problem again. I went through basically the same process, and got it up and running, but again it crapped out.

Figuring I had a bum board, I went and installed all the parts into my old P5K-E, but now the old board has the same problem. I know it's not the video card, as I tried my old one already. Any idea on whether the new CPU or RAM are likely to cause this? What's the fastest way to narrow it down? It's a little difficult when I can't see the BIOS, and I can't tell what step exactly makes it responsive again (other than just disconnect everything).

Good morning. It would help to know your other components, including your Power Supply. Do you have the correct power going to the video card and the board? Need more info.

Hi there,

The other components are:
Corsair HX520
Samsung F1 750GB
Pioneer DVD-RW
Antec P180
Thermalright Ultima-90 on the CPU

I swapped the new motherboard back in, this time with the old Patriot DDR-800 instead of the new RAM. It's booting right now, and seems ok after a couple of reboots. I don't know if the memory was bad, or if the mobo was just cranky with that particular memory. Maybe reinstalling everything helped. I'll have to try testing the memory.
 
Could be something as simple as setting the voltage in bios with the patriot to the specs for the new ram, and then shutting down and swapping ram to the new 1's. Some memory does not start at jdec, or at 1.8v as per spec.
