The PC was working fine (as usual). Then gf tell me "the computer wont come on"...

Last thing I did... was unplug my 2.1 speakers and move them... while the pc was on (sleeping).

Lights ON, Fans ON, CMOS 4 leds - meaning "booting the system"... goes NO farther. 🙁
..I can hear the cd-roms making noise doing there boot thing, then nothing. Any Ideas?

If you have integrated video, try that. If not, it may be your vid card. Thats my first guess. Pull out any unessecary things from your mobo: sound cards and the like to try to isolate the problem.

:FYI:
dfi nf2 'lanparty' +2200 athlon,
kingston hyperx 512 + 256,
ibm hitachi 80gig, sony cd-rw/cd-r,
dual monitors - 2 old ass "diamond" cards - agp: 32mg & pci: viper v550 16mg

..I hope not cpu or MB fired. Or my HD and loose all my 'mp3's.
I've got a biostar mb +1700 cpu to 'frankenstien' test it with. Just didnt want to go that far.

was working fine before I went to yankin' & pulling on the speakers wires while it was on.

//* hey, mechBgon... nice info on the website 'bout firewall before going live with new install. *//

Most likely is that something is shorting out the motherboard, after that its pretty much either your CPU or your motherboard is bad if there is no posting.

i had a prob like that, the mobo ended up touching the metal some how before bootup, was lucky nothing blew.

How about some static electricity build up when you unplugged your speakers? I remember that something similar happened to me once. The computer would boot up, but wouldn't recognized the sound card. After trying a few things, I removed the pci card, ground it, and inserted it back in. Everything worked ok after that.

Thanks for the compliment on the wormBgon page, it seems like there's an increasing need for people to be security-aware from the get-go, nowdays 🙂

If you didn't try this yet:

  1. Rant & throw stuff
  2. unplug the computer
  3. take out its CMOS battery
  4. clear the CMOS with the jumper for about 30 seconds
  5. put the battery back in
  6. plug the computer back in
and hopefully it decides to work again.

Rant & throw stuff. Check!!! LOL 😉 ....

I put it all back together and now it boots to the windows screen and when the bar gets full,..it STOPS.
... this is so disappointing & discouraging.

After resetting the BIOS, you probably ought to raise the memory voltage back to 2.7 volts now. Fancy PC3200 or higher sometimes doesn't like AUTO (2.5 volts).

Or perhaps the hard drive is being weird 😕 You can download Hitachi's drive-testing utilities from here and run an extended test overnight if nothing else comes to light. Good luck 🙂
