My son's computer has a 6150bk8mc motherboard and we just put a 7800gt video card in it. The problem is that the graphics card only works when the computer is in safe mode. It boots up fine. I see everything scrolling by. Then i see the windows xp logo and the bar moving then i hear it boot into windows but the screen is blank. If i go into safe mode there is no issues at all. I did not run into issues while installing windows either. It is really strange. This video card was just put in and it worked fine in the other system that i have. I do have the power connector to the video card plugged in as well too. Could there be a bios setting or something? had a 7600gs in this system before with no issues. Unfortunately i no longer have that card to test. I have a new power supply and a new hard drive as well as this new install of windows xp pro. Suggestions?

Well I tried to uninstall the chipset drivers because it happened after that but it will not allow me to do that in safe mode. Lucky me! I can try one more time to reinstall windows. I will start that process now. No big deal since nothing is installed.

Never un-install a chipset driver without un-installing a graphics card driver first, bad bad bad !

Just get Driver Sweeper, go in Safe Mode, clean the Chipset drivers and graphics drivers too, and then boot in Normal mode again, it should work. And then you have to re-install the Chipset drivers first, then reboot, and then re-install the graphics drivers, and voila, it should be fine. I'm 100% sure that you don't need to re-install Windows at all. It's definitely a drivers issue.

Try booting into "VGA" mode and then changing the display settings to something low, like 800x600 60Hz.

That mobo has integrated video (GeForce 6150 ). If you put in discrete vid card drivers without uninstalling integrated drivers you'll have a conflict. If you can't uninstall the integrated drivers you can disable the integrated video in the device manager. Also check Bios and see what settings are for vid card adapter. The board has PCIe 16x slot but Im not sure on that board how integrated is set. On my older Gateway I had to switch from AGP (for the integrated) to PCI for discrete card. My integrated was older than your though.

didn't read the thread. its 5am

you probably didn't need to reinstall winXP. but thats often the not-so-quick but guaranteed to work fix.

u probably could have done better by installing all drivers in windows/safe mode, then run driver cleaner in safe mode, restart, then reinstall your new drivers..
