No USGP in 2008

It seems like most of the American tracks with large grandstands are ovals, except Indy. There are not a lot of other choices.

Past races (other than Indy) were Watkins Glen (1961-1980), Phoenix (1989-1991), Dallas (1984), Riverside (1958, 1960), Sebring (1959), Santa Monica(1914,1916), San Francisco (1915), Milwaukee(1912), Savannah(1908, 1910,1911).

I wish there was a track in the south they could bring it to so that I don't have to travel as far. Maybe they could set it up at Daytona or something 😉

daytona has an infield. i wonder if nascar would let F1 run at nascar's biggest track?

I've heard the same. Imagine the photo-ops in front of the Bellagio fountains in the evening.

The course at Mid-Ohio has great elevation changes and tight turns. Perfect for F1 fans who hate lead changes.😀

Lets just throw the F1 cars on the track at Bristol. See if the drivers can stand after the 100 laps they'd probably schedule the race for 🙂

They used to run in Long Beach too.
I hope the Las Vegas is more carefully planned than the previous attempt. It was horrible for everyone. Even Phoenix was horrible.
edit---I voted for Tony George being the bigger butthole. I don't know who is to blame more for the USGPS fiascos, but he needs a comeuppance for the CART/IRL/USAC breakaway.

I live in indy was super pissed they cancelled. The Bernie needs to realize that a market this big requires an investment, secondly if there was an american driver that was worth his salt the American public would start to care.

looks like the poll is neck-and-neck. or is that cheek-to-cheek?

@foghorn: the detroit races were poorly done. agreed, although i'm no fan of ovals, the breakup did a lot of damage to the domestic sport.

Hmm... Looks like we traded an F1 gp for a MotoGP.

Sorry, but if thats the way its going to be, I'm still ok.

Yeah, MotoGP at Indy should be interesting. Casey Stoner had a few runaway races this year on the Ducati, but most races are close with lots of passing. Compare that to F1 with most lead changes happening in the pits.

What's wrong with Laguna Seca?

Heard it didn't have enough safety junk for Bernie

Laguna Seca did make track changes for MotoGP, like cutting back a hillside for more runoff. The track could probably pass, but the bigger problem is handling the crowd, both track access and finding enough hotel rooms in Monterey.
